Some Simple "How To Do It" Reminders...


To add a picture:

1. Select "Insert" from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
2. Choose "picture" from the choices.
3. Select "from file" if you have the picture saved somewhere.
4. Find the file and add the picture.

To add clipart:

  1. Select "Insert" from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  2. Choose "clipart" from the choices.
  3. Use the dialog "window" on the right side of your screen to type in what clip art you want (like "frog" to find clipart of a frog).
  4. Choose a clipart image and insert it by double clicking on it.

To resize an image:

  1. Use the CORNER handles on the image and drag it larger or smaller (using the corner handles keeps the image from getting distorted.
  2. Instead you can use the picture format toolbar to size the image by a certain percentage.
  • To use this toolbar make sure it is visible (on the menubar at the top of the screen select "View" then "toolbars" and make certain there is a check in front of the "picture toolbar".
  • Then you can select the image and use the SIZE tab in the picture toolbar to adjust the image.

To add a link:

  1. Select the item (image or word(s)) to be made into a link.
  2. Click on "Insert" on the menubar at the top of the screen.
  3. Choose "Hyperlink".
  4. If you are linking to the Internet, type in (or paste) the address to which you will be linking. Remember, to test your link you need to be in mode...


To make words appear one letter at a time:

  1. Type the word or words you wish to have appear one letter at a time
  2. Select the word or words and then using the menu bar at the top, select "Slide Show"
  3. Choose "Custom Animation"
  4. Then you will add an "effect" - in this case it is an "Entrance" effect
  5. Choose "Appear"
  6. NOW edit this effect by clicking on it in the panel on the right, a small down arrow will appear.
  7. Click on this arrow, choose "Effect Options".
  8. On the "effect" tab select "Animate Text" and choose "by letter"
  9. Set the delay between letters.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Remember, to see it work, you need to look at it in "Slideshow mode".

To have simple animation:

  1. Choose the image you wish to animate.
  2. Use the menu bar at the top, select "Slide Show"
  3. Choose "Custom Animation"
  4. Next, "add effect"
  5. Now, choose "Motion Paths".
  6. You will see some paths are already made for you, or you can draw your own path.
  7. To draw your own path, choose "Draw Custom Paths".
  8. I usually use either freeform or scribble for my path.
  9. Draw the path for your object.
  10. Choose the speed and have fun!
  11. Remember, to see your action you need to be in slide show mode.

To add your voice (or a student's voice):

Plug in a microphone.
Using the Menu bar at the top, select "Insert"
Choose "Movies and Sounds".
Then choose "record sound".

To add a music file:

On the slide you want the sound or music:
Click on "Insert"
Choose "movies and Sounds"
Choose "from file"
Use the Effect tab to set when the music starts and stops.
